I have to share the story of Tango because he was one of my all time favorite rides.  Tango came here in early January, 2009 as a 4 year old and is owned by Guy Lamarche of Quebec.  After 30 days on the barrels he seemed to like his new job.  V      By summer I was exhibitioning him with the goal of going to the futurity at OKC in December.  He acquired an abscess and didn't get to go much right before OKC so he was still a little green for his first runs.  But he did show some true potential so the owner left him with me to run for the 2010 year.

In mid January we headed to Arizona.  At the Greg Olson Futurity he clocked a 17.8 and a 17.7 on a standard pattern. We didn't win money but he was good in the 1D average.  On Sunday in the open he clocked a 17.4          and afterwards I found out he was running a high fever.

This illness kept him down for couple of months so we didn't crack back out until mid April where in his first out he placed 3rd in the 1D at a local NBHA.          I then took him to the BBR finals and even though he was not quite back in shape from the illness he clocked a 15.9 and a 16.0.  Two very respectable 2D times.

The weekend after the BBR finals is one I will never forget and I chalk it up as my most memorable run on any horse.  He won a Central 4D outdoors at Pratt, KS by over 6 tenths.  These kind of things just don't happen with the tough competition and there were a lot of skeptics.  He proved himself even more the following weekend winning 3rd in the 1D at the Heartland Nationals.  Trying a little too hard in the Short Go caused a tipped barrel and cost us 3rd place.

Tango was starting to move a little off and having some issues.  Visits to the vet concluded he would need the summer off to recuperate.  He started back at the Summer Shoot Out where he acted like a kid and ran really green.  That didn't last long.  The following weekend he won the Cornhusker Futurity open average and racked up his first big earnings.

A run outdoors at another Central 4D concluded he was just plain wicked outdoors.  He tipped the first straightening a little to much but would of bested the field by 7 tenths.          We then headed off to Gillette for the Fizz Bomb but with showing signs of soundness issues he didn't perform as well as I hoped.  We squeaked by and won 2nd in the first go           but tipped in the second go.  He then struggled for a month and wasn't performing well so I kept him fit and switched him to the left to see if that would make things easier.  After 30 days of going left he won 4th at the Sho Me Futurity slot race and pocketed $2,500.

I feel if Tango would have been 100% all year he would of stacked up some major wins.  That is the pitfalls of futurity horses.  It's a lot of risk but the rewards are wonderful.  Tango is enjoying some relaxation with his owner in Canada and will be ridden by his daughter in the future.
